Rugby World Cup

In 1985 the IRB decided a Rugby World Cup should be held every 4 years. The first Rugby World Cup was held in New Zealand and Australia jointly in 1987. Since then the Rugby World Cup has become one of the top 3 sporting events in the world.

Each Rugby World Cup the top 4 teams plus the hosts of the next Rugby World Cup get automatic entry to the next Rugby World Cup. All the other rugby teams of the world need to qualify by playing the teams in their region.

The first Rugby World Cup was won by the New Zealand All Blacks in 1987. Since then the Australian Wallabies have won 2 Rugby World Cups, South African Springboks 2 and England 1. The next Rugby World Cup will be the Rugby World Cup 2011 and be held in New Zealand the home of the All Blacks.
